Frist Day of 2nd Grade

Summer Trip

I somehow have NO pictures from our trip to OK and TX this summer, except of our stop to see George Washington Carver's grave at Tuskegee Institute and his birthplace in Diamond Grove, MI. Sophie is especially fascinated by his life and enjoyed sharing her enthusiasm with her cousin Finn, who loved exploring the GWC museum and trails.

Serena's Visit 2011!

anna jumping into the spring

Serena came for three weeks this summer and we had a blast! Wish that she lived closer to us...but we're so glad that we get to see her as often as we do. We had another wonderful trip to the beach, where we saw (and smelled) a manatee (that's two years in a row now that we've seen one with her...:)). We enjoyed hanging out at the house, going swimming in a beautiful spring. I warned Serena that it would be cold; she laughed when she found out that cold is 77 degrees! I guess it's all relative! We love our dear friend and hope that these visits continue to be an annual thing...hopefully one day we'll get to Portland to visit her and do Portland-y things. ;) (The picture above was taken on her last night....the kids were trying to keep her from going...;))

Why am I the only one who seems happy here?!?

Serena Visits! 2010

at the beach!!

We had a wonderful time exploring the ocean with Serena. She encouraged our rather cautious family to go out a little deeper...to not just get our ankles wet! We found a sting ray and a manatee in the waist-deep water....things we would not have seen had we stayed closer to the shore. Our favorite finds were a baby seahorse (actually, the girls and Serena were the only ones that got to see this), an albino crab and these cool little fish that look like seaweed (trumpet fish, I think). Our condo was right on the beach and we watched the sunset every night as we ate dinner in a little gazebo on the beach. What great memories. Thank you, Serena!!!
